Artist of the week: B△STILLE
I came across the song called Pompeii while watching VH1 and
it caught my attention. After doing adequate research about this band Bastille, I discovered how great their music
was and I just had to blog about it. Their
songs will definitely leave people who are sick of love songs, satisfied. Almost every song that plays on TV, radio, etc,
is about sappy love stories. I had
reached that time in a person’s life when you get sick of your own playlist and
yearn for something that would arouse your tympanum, and luckily I found it! So
the lead singer/songwriter/producer of the band (Yes he does all of it) – Dan Smith
started Bastille as a solo project but soon invited his friends to contribute
leading the formation of a quartet(classic).
Coming to the music, there have been single releases
accompanied by an album called ‘Bad Blood’.
The songs in general are amazing with a smooth flow of background music
and instrumentals. But that doesn't make it boring at all. The use of various instruments
and sound effects make sure you don’t flip to the next song.
The lyrics in all of
the songs are short and simple, not too complicated at the same time not too
simple to understand, having just the right balance. Unlike other artists who usually convey
stories through the lyrics, as the song proceeds, Bad Blood has incomplete
story-like lyrics which left me intrigued. I have yet to figure out what they
entirely mean. The videos too are interesting,
not once did I dare change the channel before the video was over! They are a
little confusing and creepy but in a good sense.
Overall Bastille is an interesting band with lively songs, a
mixture of pop and rock sounds with great instrumentals. The singer Dan smith
has great potential and a young amazing voice. The songs keep you interested
till the last second. I loved the
beginning of the song ‘Flaws’, which has a very good beat
to it. Pompeii (latest release), Flaws,
Overjoyed, Bad blood are definitely worth checking out. Dan
Smith is unlike any other artist spinning riddles and questions all over
the songs, not exposing any characteristics of his own personality except his impressive
creativity, variation, good looks and an awesome voice.
Surely made my week.
